New Opportunities Winter 2020:
Marygrove is currently looking for:
Historians/Researchers (Indirect Service)! We are currently researching our own history, and we’re looking for volunteers who love to sleuth through library archives, microfilm, and compile background. Marygrove has been around for over 170 years, and all of it has been interesting. This is a great way to volunteer away from our campus if you live a little further away.
Graphic/Marketing Material Designers (Indirect Service): Are you handy with Publisher, Photoshop, Illustrator or your own favored program? We’re looking for some extra help designing brochures/flyers/marketing material.
Social Media Support (Indirect Service): Help our Marketing team keep up with demand! We’re looking for folks who would enjoy posting regularly on our social media channels.
We are ALWAYS looking for:
Mentor (Direct Service)- Mentors serve as role models and help young people feel confident about their future. There is no other way that spending a few days out of your month will have such a major impact on someone’s life. Research confirms that strong mentoring relationships have a powerful and positive impact on young people in a variety of personal, academic, and professional situations. Similar to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Program, mentors are matched with a resident, and together they develop friendship, respect and trust. Mentors are asked to make a one-year commitment, and Marygrove staff provides ongoing support. Click here for a more detailed look at mentoring.
Tutor (Direct Service) – In partnership with YourWordsSTL, tutors work with the young residents in Marygrove’s Transitional Living Program. Tutoring sessions take place at Marygrove on Wednesdays during the school year and assist high-school-level students with general studies. Furthermore, tutors help with crafting resumes and completing job applications. Creative writing sessions take place on Saturdays. Since we serve older students with complex histories, we look for tutors who are at least 21 years old, or seniors in college.
Administrative Support (Indirect Service) – Volunteer for some time helping Marygrove Staff with various administrative tasks. This type of work takes place weekdays from 8am – 4pm and varies by project. It can include filing, data entry, copying, computer work, shredding, scanning, and assisting with bulk mailing. Volunteer for a day or for the length of a particular project.
Donation Sorter (Indirect Service) – Marygrove receives donations of clothing for our residents at various times during the week. On Thursdays each week from 8am – 11am help sort, organize and inventory them.
Intern/Practicum Student/Service Project (Direct Service) – Are you a student or looking for a service project? Marygrove is an excellent place to hone your skills. Staff will work with you to develop a program that fits needed requirements. Graduate students please reach out to Michelle Koerner, Director of Admissions and Therapy, at email@example.com. Undergraduate students please reach out to Djuana Baer, Director of Residental Services, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Special/Group Project (Indirect Service & Direct Service) – Calling all groups and organizations! We’ll agree together ahead of time on a project that will give your group a chance to use their personal skill set or that of their group to help the children, staff and/or campus.
- Day of Service: Spend the day with us at Marygrove, assisting our staff with various campus-related projects (some examples might be painting or simple landscaping). We’ll work with your group to design a time period and project that suits your interests.
- Host a Collection: A great way for a group to be involved is to host a collection drive. We can discuss Marygrove’s current needs, and help you get set up for a drive within your organization for a predetermined period of time. We love it when our groups visit us to bring their collection efforts, and we can show them exactly how much it’s appreciated!
Event Support (Indirect Service) – Support us at our various events held for Marygrove! Assist with setup, raffle sales and more at off-site events. Please view our calendar for upcoming events- we typically look for volunteers up until three weeks before each event.
“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” – Elizabeth Andrew
